Cathedral Cove Volunteer Project 2011

cathedral cove1 cathedralcove2web

In August 2011 members of the Hillary Challenge Team from MBAS contributed to the Department of Conservation's volunteer programme at Cathedral Cove.

In a letter to the Principal, John Wright, both the students and staff were praised as " highly motivated, hard working" and were congratulated on being "an integral
part of the group often motivating and setting high standards for the rest of our vounteer team to follow".

During the day the team moved 40 cubic metres of mulch onto the gardens at the Cathedral Cove Amenity Area. The area is at the gateway to the most popular
walk on the Coromandel and after their 6 hours of hard work the revitalised gardens look worth the effort.

A flying visit

westpac27web westpac65web

What a start to Week 2 - a visit from the Westpac Helicopter Team who have been based in Mercury Bay for the summer!
Mr Morgan had the inspiration to bring the crew to school first thing Tuesday morning and give us all a chance to show just
how much we appreciate what they have been doing for our community.
Students from all ages laid on the ground and spelt out THANKS! and then many got the chance to hear from
the crew members themselves.

Special mention must also go to the group of touring motorcylists who turned up on their gleaming machines to add
weight to the 'exclamation mark'. One of their group had received treatment from the Wetpac crew during their stay
in the Bay and they wanted to contribute to the occasion.
