Students elected on to the Council have a particular responsibility to lead by example and to consider the welfare of all students at the school.

Student Leader Teams

In all three areas of the school there are teams of student leaders. In the senior and middle years these consist of Head Girl, Head Boy, deputies and leaders with specific responsibilities for sports, arts & culture, enviro, academic and international students. GUIDANCE: Pastoral Care

There is a clearly defined guidance network in the school. This is centered on our class and homeroom Learning Mentors, our Deans, our Assistant Principals (Primary, Middle and Senior Years) and our Deputy Principals(Primary, Middle and Senior Years). The Class Teachers for Years 1-6 students and homeroom teachers for Y7-13 students are usually the first people to consult if your child is experiencing difficulties.                                                                                                                                                               We have a part-time School Counsellor, School Health Nurse, Attendance Officer, RTLB (Resource Teacher:Learning and Behaviour), Medical Practitioner and School Chaplain who are also part of our team. Our school l, inlcuding the Principal are always available to help students.

He liaises closely with the Careers Services, Waikato Institute of Technolgy, Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, the universities, the armed forces, major industries and local employers, and should be approached first for matters relating to employment or tertiary education.

Behaviour Management Programme Years 1 - 13

Our school operates a behaviour management programme which is based on the principle of students accepting responsibility for their own actions. It is student centred and is not punishment based but rather concentrates on behaviour modification using the philosophy of restorative practices.

There is a clearly defined structure to the programme which all students are made aware of through class meetings as it is important that they fully understand the objectives. They are informed that the structural steps are progressive and relate directly to their behaviour. Through this structure there is also a means of support which encourages the student to modify unacceptable behaviour.

Through formalising the system the main aim is to get individuals to accept responsibility for their own actions. With staff and parental support, the learning and teaching process will be more effective for all students.
