How to save a 2007 document so MS Word 97-2003 can read it

 

Step 1: Click on the office button.  It is a circle in the top right hand corner of the screen.  It is inside the red circle show below.

 

Step 2: When the menu drops down select “Save As” as shown in the green box below.  When the second menu appears beside the first select “Word 97-2003 Document”, shown in the red square below.  You will see the save screen pop up.

  

Step 3: Save the file as you would normally.  Notice that it be saved as a “.doc” file, this is what you want.  You should also notice that the save as type is “Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)” which is what you want.  Both of these elements are shown in the red box below.

***Note*** If you save a MS Word 2007 document this way the document may loose some of it’s functionality.  In most cases this will be fine but you should close down windows and re-open the document you just saved to double check that it still looks correct. ***Note***
